This is another fine staircase in Kemp Town. The original occupant of the house, together with No. 14 Chichester Terrace adjoining, was the sixth or Batchelor Duke of Devonshire. The Duke erected a weather vane on the roof of the house, which has a lettered dial at the head of the staircase that can be studied from indoors. This dial is visible at the top of the photograph. The house was later occupied by the Princess Royal, daughter of Edward VII.
