This estate was laid out between 1824 and 1830 on the land originally known as the Wick Estate belonging to the Rev. Thomas Scutt. It was originally called Brunswick Town. The architects were Amon Wilds and Charles Augustus Busby. In 1830, the estate acquired its own Act of Parliament, by which Commissioners were appointed for the complete municipal self-government of the estate, making it an independant entity that in due course developed into the Hove Commissioners and eventually into Hove Corporation.
