This is probably the finest individual house in Brighton and the only house in the Borough designed by Robert Adam. The original house on the site was built by the fourth Duke of Marlborough in 1769, but in 1786 it was purchased by 'Single-Speech' Hamilton who employed Adam to rebuild it. George IV, as Prince of Wales, stayed there in 1789, and again in 1795, with his wife, Caroline of Brunswick. The house is now the Education Offices of the Brighton Corporation.
